Bidi Walk- Laneway Upgrade

A transformation of an underutilised laneway into a vibrant, pedestrianised public space.

The laneway upgrade of Bidi Walk, formerly known as Row52, is part of the Town’s ‘Old Spaces, New Places‘ program, targeting places within the Town that can be renewed and upgraded for greater community use and benefit.

Bidi Walk is located in East Victoria Park, between Ten Ten Kitchen, East Victoria Park IGA and TAO Restaurant. The site is one of the Town’s most identifiable public spaces and was accessed by pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles for movement between Albany Hwy and the Iceworks Lane car park. The site was rarely utilised by the community outside of the occasional markets and only served the purpose of a thoroughfare between the Albany Hwy main street and public car parking.

After a couple of months of construction, the laneway was reopened to the public in January 2020 and is now a vibrant, pedestrianised public space. In August 2020, it was announced that Bidi Walk won an Australian Institute of Landscape Architects WA Urban Design Award.
