Optus Stadium is a multi-purpose world-class venue, with a commitment to a ‘fans first’ experience. With 60,000 seats, Optus Stadium is the third largest venue in Australia and was awarded the Most Beautiful Stadium in the World in the 2019 Prix Versailles international architecture awards. Construction of the venue began in December 2013, with the Stadium officially opening on 21 January 2018 at an investment by State Government of more than $1 billion. In its first year of operation, the Stadium hosted a total attendance of more than two million people.
The Stadium and the surrounding Park is located on the Burswood Peninsula, just east of the CBD (connected by the Matagarup Bridge), accessible by public transport. The Stadium hosts a variety of sports and entertainment events, including Australian Football League, International and Big Bash League cricket, soccer, Rugby League and Union, plus concerts. Surrounded by the Stadium Park, there is everything from nature playgrounds in the Chevron Parklands to the BHP Boardwalk and Amphitheatre, picnic areas for a family barbeque and public art.
