Vic Park responds with more free parking

The Town of Victoria Park is increasing free parking and reducing hourly rates along Albany Highway in response to the impact of COVID-19.

From 24 April, the Town is increasing free time to one hour, and reducing the fee to $1.10 for the subsequent hour, in all two-hour-maximum parking zones along Albany Highway.

Mayor Karen Vernon said: “We recognise the past month has been difficult.  Making our parking more affordable and accessible now is one of the many actions we are taking to support our local businesses and community. It’s a win for everyone.”

“As more people make shorter trips out, this will make it easier to access takeaway food services, do the shopping and run errands, while still supporting local businesses along the strip”.

The changes are being made possible by the Town’s innovative new dynamic parking model, introduced following a trial last year.  Under this model, parking conditions and pricing can respond more quickly to changes in the levels of demand.

COVID-19 related restrictions have seen demand for parking along Albany Highway fall below 50%.

Mayor Vernon said:  “The trial provided a good insight into how people use our paid parking.  The results proved that more free time and reduced fees had a positive impact on levels of on-street parking.  This is so important in making the strip a dynamic place to work and play.”

“We are one of the first local governments in Australia to introduce this innovation for on-street parking, which allows us to be far more responsive in balancing the needs of residents, local businesses and visitors parking in our Town.”

Tickets are still required for free and paid parking.  Visitors are encouraged to download and use the Easypark app on their phone to avoid the need to print and display a ticket. For more information visit

To ensure there are enough bays for all visitors, time limits still apply. Visitors are asked to continue observing signage when parking in the Town.

The Town’s parking team will continue monitoring parking occupancy. Parking conditions and pricing will be reviewed monthly and amended in response to changes in occupancy.
